KILKEE ON TV

Tuning in to Clare FM recently I learned that a very special swim took place on Tuesday, November 15th, which will eventually form part of the background to upcoming Weather Forecasts on television. A long-awaited recognition, I must say, for that aquatic Pearl of west Clare. I understand from the radio interview that a huge response was forthcoming, including the famous Pier Pressure (yes, that's correct) hardy annuals who swim every day year round over by that famous Boathouse. I do so in the Summer myself and love it! There is a great camaraderie around that spot. During the rest of the year, I betake myself to the glorious indoor pool at Energise, overlooking the majestic Shannon River.

BANDROOM CENTENARY

St. Mary's Fife and Drum Band remember their deceased members on the first Sunday of November every year, and did so on Sunday last. Following the Mass, which was celebrated by Fr. Richard Davern, they thrilled the congregation with a twenty minute exposé of their musical talent, and they were for sure in 'full throttle”! Established in 1885, the Bandroom where they practice is one hundred years old this year. So, following this magical recital it was off up to that famous Bandroom on Mary Street for the celebration. As is their well-known insignia, sociability was the order of the day, and here they excel every time. We relished delicious prepared sandwiches, together with tea or coffee, and a good time was had by all present. We departed much exhilarated from our visit to that age-old building.

REMEMBRANCE

Once again there was an ecumenical act of Remembrance for all those killed on peacekeeping duties and in war, at the King's Island Military Cemetery at 10.30am, on Sunday last. A little wooden cross was placed on each of the thirty-seven graves in this well-kept cemetery. As the Last Post resounded throughout that peaceful enclosure, a weak and pale sun peeped through from an equally pale blue sky for a few seconds. Reverend Dean Niall Sloane, led the prayers. Mayor Francis Foley attended, together with Cllr Kieran O'Hanlon and members of the Royal British Legion, who looked impeccable in their uniform attire.

ÁRD SCOIL MHUIRE VICTORY

Ardscoil Mhuire is delighted that its Concern Debates Team opened their 2022/23 League Phase campaign with a victory by unanimous decision over an excellent team from Castletroy College. ASM's team rose to the challenge in proposing a motion on GMO's (Genetically Modified Organisms) and the necessity of their use in fighting World Hunger. Their speeches were well researched, delivered passionately, and peppered with knockout counter-arguments. Congratulations to Nicole Sheehy (Captain), Holly Sweeney, Erin Carroll, Molly Flanagan, and the entire extended team on their hard work, collaboration, creativity, and spirit of generosity, demonstrated over the last month of preparation.
