PRIMATE'S VISIT:

The House of Bishops will visit the Diocese for the weekend of Friday, November 15th to Sunday the 17th. This is an initiative of the Primate, the purpose of which is to enable the Bishops to have an insight into Parish Life in each of the Parishes in turn. Each Bishop will visit a group of Parishes and join in Choral Evensong  at St. Mary's Cathedral on Saturday at 5pm, together with the clergy involved, and there will be a buffet meal afterwards in the Cathedral for all present, (bishops, clergy and congregation)

REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY:

A Service will be held on Sunday, November 10th at 11.15am at St. Mary's Cathedral. The guest speaker will be, Rt. Reverend A . Doyle, Bishop of Austin, Texas.

REGINA  AT CATHEDRAL:

The renowned global singer, Regina Nathan will host what is certain to be a most wonderful concert at St. Mary's Cathedral on Thursday, November 7th. No doubt, tickets can be procured on the way in but check ahead of time just to be sure.

COULTER AT CATHEDRAL:

Renowned musician and composer, Phil Coulter will perform at a Charity Concert at 8pm at St. Mary's Cathedral on December 8th. All proceeds will go to Novas and Marine Search Rescue. I am reliably informed that tickets are selling briskly and one would be advised to lose no time in booking if you wish to attend what promises to be a most wonderful concert. Half the 300 available have already been sold. Contact www.saintmaryscathedral.ie

MILITARY CEMETERY:

The annual Remembrance Service took place at the Military Cemetery at King's Island on Sunday last. Reverend Dean Niall Sloane and members of the Royal British Legion attended. Dean Niall Sloane said prayers and the Last Post was sounded. A little wooden cross was placed on each of the 37 graves of the soldiers interred in the cemetery, where the very first burial, a Dr. Cowan, was interred in August, 1856. The Sparling family have been tending to the upkeep of this cemetery since 1958.

 CREATIVITY WEEK AT ASM:

An annual pre-Halloween tradition in Ardscoil Mhuire, Creativity Week is the perfect opportunity for ASM's staff and students to let their hair down, showing off their creativity and talents through a range of activities. School-wide competitions like the Haunted House Construction, Blackout Writing, and Mystery Painting, as well as a trip to the Hunt Museum with Narrative 4, got everyone in the mood for the Friday before midterm... Mad Hair Day! The hair and costumes were amazing (though loving homages to several staff members were eerily uncanny) and were fully on show during a lively whole-school assembly that made sure to honour ASM's status as one of the Arts Council of Ireland's 'Creative Schools'. Senior students also collected on the day and hope to make a donation to Haven Hub in the new term.

DANCING AT LOCAL CENTRE:

SEÁN CHRISTMAS TREASURE:

One again we are blessed this Christmas with the publication of  a visual production of  our city in past times. With visual delight Sean Curtin has reached number 19 in the series of what can only be described as s definite purchase for hundreds of Limerick people, a book we have come to look forward to, our literary Christmas Box!  Seán's books have never relented on quality and this is quite admirable, as is the neat price of €15. From start to finish this venture has proved to be be a runaway success for him. As well as the outstanding, nostalgic pictures, the explanatory captions are highly informative, often giving rise to an amount of discussion in many a home or friendly circle. This man has reason to be very happy indeed and we thank him profusely for doing us all a huge favour in providing such a quality book every year since 2000, and we look forward to number 20 next year, please God!  As well as selling in the local shops, Seán himself can usually at the main entrance at the Saturday Market vending his Christmas Treasure. In future notes I hope to elaborate on some of the various pictures in the book entitled, “A Stroll Down Memory Lane.”

CHURCH CAFÉ:

Meet at our Community Centre at the beginning of the Island Bank walkway on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of every month at 12.30pm (Salvation Army). All are welcome.
