ATHLUNKARD STREET

As mentioned previously in this column, the bi-centenary of Athlunkard Street will be celebrated in April 2024. To this end, our highly accomplished parish scribe, Denis O'Shaughnessy, is compiling a publication in honour of this great event. If you have any memories of the said street still standing,

be it personal or a little anecdote you would like to relate, then get in contact with the author at the following: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. Pictures with a covering caption would also be most welcome.

LOCAL SCHOOL AND DCU

St Mary's NS is officially a Dublin City University Changemaker School. One of only 29 schools in the country in the network, it becomes only the 2nd school in Limerick alongside Corpus Christi School, Moyross. Schools in the DCU Changemaker Network develop the four pillars of empathy, creativity, leadership, and teamwork. Such development also involves the enhancement of 21st century learning skills. This is a huge achievement for the school and testament to the ongoing hard work of all the students, children, parents and community stakeholders.

JUNIOR JOBS FAIR

St Mary's NS held a hugely successful ???????????????????????????????????????? ???????????????? on Wednesday 8th November. This was the first event of its kind nationally. Analog Devices, H&F Electrical Contractors Ltd, Johnson & Johnson, Irish Rail and Takumi Precision Engineering all had stalls present. Children from 4th-6th class had the opportunity to explore different career paths and opportunities that are available to them as they continue with their education. The event was coordinated by Limerick City and County Council, Junior Achievement Ireland, St Mary's NS and supported by Gilbert Little. It was a marvellous experience for the school community and all stakeholders.

ORGANIST BRENDAN RIP

Many people and particularly members of our parish community will have been surpised and gsaddened upon learing of the death of our much respected musician, Brendan Frawley. Brother of the late John the Man, of happy memory for his radio presence in many of our kitchens throughout the 80s and into the 90s, Brendan, who was organist in our church for many years, was a very pleasant person to know as he covered a wide range in the local musical arena. He produced some excellent CDs for various highly accomplished singers within the city. Brendan will be remembered not alone for his musical prowess but also as a fine individual who possessed a very pleasant manner. We extend our sincere sympathy to his four daughters, Louise, Brenda, Claire and Sinéad, his much-loved sister, Ann, and his extended family.
